Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) South Garo Hills - A Gateway to Agricultural Excellence

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in South Garo Hills was formally established in 2017, with full operations commencing in August 2018 after the appointment of its Head and supporting staff. Since its inception, KVK has been committed to empowering local farmers through advanced agricultural knowledge, innovation, and hands-on training.

Our journey: Initially, KVK operated from a temporary location in the Chokpot Bazaar area from August 2018 to April 2024. The transition to a new phase came in April 2024, when the center moved to its permanent home in Dagalgopgre. The newly constructed administrative building and the surrounding campus reflect our commitment to fostering agricultural development in the region.

Our Facilities: Our KVK campus now showcases an impressive array of demonstration units and facilities designed to support agricultural research and extension activities. Some of our key facilities include:

• IOFS Model: A comprehensive demonstration of Integrated Organic Farming System, showcasing sustainable agricultural practices.
• Oyster Mushroom Cultivation: A hands-on unit to teach the techniques and benefits of cultivating oyster mushrooms for increased income and nutrition.
• Crop Cafeteria: A diverse showcase of crops, offering an interactive space to understand the various crops suitable for the region.
• Oil Expeller: A facility to demonstrate oil extraction processes, empowering farmers to produce and process oils from locally grown seeds.
• Piggery Demo Unit: A well-managed pig farming unit aimed at improving livestock productivity and promoting sustainable animal husbandry practices.
• Vermicomposting: A demonstration of eco-friendly composting methods using earthworms to produce nutrient-rich soil for better crop yield.
• Horticulture Demonstrations: Featuring crops like pineapple, dragon fruit, tomato, beans, bottle gourd, and other vegetables, utilizing advanced technologies from different institutes for better cultivation techniques.
• Instructional Farm: A practical farm designed to impart knowledge on different farming methods and techniques, offering hands-on learning experiences.
• Fisheries Demonstration Unit: A unit to showcase modern and sustainable fish farming practices for enhanced aquatic production.
• Duckery Demonstration: A unit focused on demonstrating the rearing and management of ducks, improving poultry productivity and offering additional income avenues for farmers.
